Gloria Allred is representing the "victims" of Michael Richards offensive tirade at the Laugh Factory, and Al Shaprton and Jesse Jackson can't miss an opportunity to jump into the fray, as the usual suspects come out of the woodwork to squeeze as much cable news face time as possible until the news cycle ends.

Nothing immediately screams "I want to get paid" as loudly as bringing Gloria Allred into the picture. As a life-long resident of Los Angeles, and an equal and civil rights fanatic, I just get sick when she comes into a case, because it means that any legitimate claim will immediately become a media circus all about getting her on the local news for as long as she can prolong the cycle.

  Right on Wil. While I agree that what "kramer" did was reprehensible I can't help (especially now that GA is involved) but feel that the "victims" are milking some money out of the whole situation. Am I wrong?

    Well, what are they honestly suing for? Being offended? Being yelled at in a comedy club? Because if you can sue for someone yelling at you in a comedy club, I'm going to be sending lawsuits to a lot of people.
    What Richards did was disgusting, and his career is clearly over (not entirely because of this, but it certainly helped speed it along) but this is ridiculous. I hope that whoever Allred sues (I'm sure she'll go after the Laugh Factory, Michael Richards, OJ, The City of Los Angeles, and, uh, how about Rage Against The Machine) refuses to settle, and a judge dismisses the case with prejudice, and orders the plaintiffs to pay all court costs.
    What you probably won't hear in the endless local news reports about this, is that Richards and his "victims" are just being used by the likes of Allred and Jackson. Crap like this just hurts the real victims of real racism, and does nothing to encourage understanding and tolerance. They should be ashamed.

      That was exactly what I was getting at. If I could sue everyone that offended me in some way, despite how egregious it was, I'd be a rich man...

Oh, and sorry about the messed up article title. I didn't realize the "W" word was banned. If anchors want to clean that up, that'd be awesome.
