Ho Ho Ho, Merry Imus! »

Ann Coulter does it again! This is the best take on the whole Imus flap that I've read. Example: "The reason people don't like what Imus said was because the women on the Rutgers basketball team aren't engaged in public discourse. They're not public figures, they don't have a forum, they aren't trying to influence public policy." Enjoy!

Actually, it's not inappropriate for Sharpton to take issue with the statement. It's not even inapproptiate for him to want to curtail that sort of speech on public airwaves.
It may be in appropriate for Sharpton to pursue an agenda at the expense of Don Imus.
It is certainly inappropriate for Ann to weigh in on this as she is as guilty as Imus is for makling prejudicial remarks.
"faggot" joke, anyone?

I guess I would take Sharpton's "outrage" more seriously if he was an incensed about the same type of lyrics in rap music - also on the public airwaves

The problem is, the black community is filled with hypocrites. Have you seen the billboard top two? Both of those songs have been there for about 15 WEEKS and they're filled with ho's b1tches and pimps. Nobody's taking a vigil outside the studios for them to off the air.
The black community never wants to look at itself in the mirror and that's why Imus had to go.

I fail to see why anyone in America is listening to wackos like Rosie O'Donnel, Donald Trump, Sharpton, or Jackson. They were falling all over Michael Jackson. Where were they when Jeffrey Dahlmer was being murdered while he was in jail? Or the bleeding hearts for the Soledad brothers? Both far more serious implications. The media need to stop turning to the likes of Sharpton and Jackson as if they were the racial police. Stop giving them a platform, and maybe they will just go away. Their words have no meaning, and their credibility is zippo. But they have their following, mostly mindless drones I fear. He was probably only guilty of bad humor. ...they better play basketball and well!

Ann is off again, but as I can see the usual suspects are here to sing her praises.
Look Whatever anyone says Imus was wrong. He said so himself, this is not about Al this is about those young ladies whose feelings he hurt. How many of you knows that one of those young ladies play 4 instruments or that another is premed and yet another wants to get into Law?
If you have never had a raciest thing said to you, you wouldn't know how much it hurts especially when you are trying your hardest to make it through this life that is consistently throwing up roadblocks.
How about we spend some time on this team, they were not even figuring into the the playoff but through hard work and sacrifice they beat-out almost all of the woman college basketball super school to make it to the final. We are all worried about this Millionaire losing his job and Al Sharpton fishing for attention, what about what Imus said to and about these young ladies.

Hey luv, how ya doing? Agree with everything Ann states in the article. I think that most everyone would have just chalked this up to one of Imus's silly statements and gone on with their lives if Al "pot-stirrer" Sharpton hadn't seen this as an opportunity to open his mouth and make something out of nothing... I'm not saying what Imus said was OK, but it's being blown WAY out of porportion...

Thing is Vid, it wasn't one of his silly statements. Al sharpton was not the one that called him on this it was the Black Journalist they were the first to say something about this...Imus went on Al's show because he thought Al would go easy on him since they have had a history of being civil to each other.
Imus is not a bad man and he is not viewed that way in the black community, however what he said is a bad thing to say. Not too long ago a black radio DJ Star was fired on the spot for making what seem like his usual silly remarks. We all know he didn't mean anything by it but it was a nasty thing to say as is what Imus said.
Regardless of how you feel about Al or even black people you just cant say this on the airways...I hear the right and left of this country talk about morals all the time and then they defend this. Where does your values lie?

Luv, you shameless Hussey! I want hugs too!! My affections are torn between you and Ann Coulter.
Sure wish I could convey it as well as Ann. She put the Imus story into perspective without all of hyperbole. This is what's missing in the Network Newscast. (and they wonder why Katie Courics' ratings are crashing?!)

FTA: 'Was Winston Churchill was "nice" in his public pronouncements about Hitler?'
Nope. It was his job to be not so nice.
FTA: 'Was Reagan "nice" to the Soviets?'
Nope. It was his job to be not so nice.
Was Imus "nice" to the Rutgers basketball team? Nope. But,the difference in this case is that it is NOT his job to criticize in this manner. Or unintentionally poke fun. He chose the wrong statement (times 1 million). There is a big difference between what gets said in a very calculated manner in a political arena and what just gets blurted out on the spur of a moment.

I am just so sad about this, it has been all blown out of perportion. I am a Don Imus fan, but not the ring kissing Don Imus, I want him to tell everyone to shove it and then go off to Sirius or XM and never have another black guest again. No black politicians, no black bands, rappers, comedians or authors. WOW what a concept !!! I keep thinking of all the good Don does and when I heard the woman today from Rutgers say "what a victory it was" I could only think of the veterans, the children with autisim and cancer. What a price for a bunch of girls hurt feelings , and we are talking about girls who probably call each other those very same words every day.

All the good he may have done DOES NOT diminish the FACT that he called a group of DECENT, UPSTANDING, ACCOMPLISHED GIRLS - HO's!!!!
I would NEVER guess that these girls call each other that - HOW DARE YOU try to turn this on the GIRLS. The ONLY person wrong HERE is that OLD A$$ED FATHER TIME LOOKING GEEZER!!!! Instead of diminishing this to "A bunch of Girls hurt feelings", think about what if it had been YOUR CHILD who was called a HO, let alone the racial injection of Nappy Headed!! Let's JUST LOOK AT HO - it is despiccable, wrong and uncalled for!!! It is ABOUT D@NM TIME he was BROUGHT DOWN!

If the girls were "called a group of DECENT, UPSTANDING, ACCOMPLISHED GIRLS -", then they would have already learned that things dont come easy. You have to work at them and NO MATTER WHAT SOMEONE SAYS, keep you eye on the goal, which is graduating and becoming sucessful in what ever they decide to do. Who are we to judge them for being upset before they speak. Cant they speak for themselves? How dare you to decide that we have to stand up for them before they have a chance themselves. I know they have recently stood up but its hard to beleive that they would have said anything until we looked as hard as we did at Mrs smiths baby. I didnt watch/heard any of it after the third day becuase...NEWSFLASH. She is still dead. Why would they stand up if they didnt get offended. Pictures and 15 seconds. They may have been and I would had love to hear that but why was the story made well before that?? I just dont get it!

Maybe, just maybe, we of the left are beginning to converge with you of the right. I have never found myself more in agreement with Ann Coulter than on this diatribe. Sharpton got sued and lost over his rush to judgment and ignoring exculpatory evidence in the Tawana Brawley debacle. He's never so much as breathed a word of apology to the innocent white men whose lives he nearly destroyed.
Jackson was at the forefront of destroying the lives of the innocent Duke Lacrosse players. Will he apologize to them? I'll be astounded if he does.
In both these cases, innocent people were hurt a WHOLE lot more than the dream team of Rutgers was hurt by Imus' stupid slur. I've had people call me all sorts of ugly names. It didn't hurt me. Getting thrown in jail. Loosing your job. Getting thrown out of college. Having a cloud of suspicion over you for life. That actually hurts.
It's time that we realize that racism is a two edged sword. Stop swinging it. It cuts both ways.

Sharpton and Jackson are sycophantic swindling sharks, swimming around for "race issues" to devour; only to bolster their own pockets. Those actions only fosters more resentment and fuel for the next "race issue".

Here I was agreeing with everything Ann had to say (and wasn't that a uniquely odd feeling). Here I was laughing out loud at the NASDAQ ticker analogy for rules as to when you can say what to who and how.
I was gonna send the flaxen haired ho a flower basket for her perfect observation that "Nice" is often the death of "funny". Right on Ann, you ho! "Nice" is rarely found in the hallowed hos of political discourse! I'd type "hallelulja" if I could spell it! Imus' mistake (the wrinklebag old ho!)was to attack in a racially tinged way a group of people that in no way deserved such an attack. Absolutely!
Aw, but then, Ann, "did I say something offensive?" Coulter has to blow the whole deal by writing the word 'apology'. Oh COME ON Ann, like you're the apology ho of the right.

And IMUS is a DISGRACE to WHITES!
Why WOULD anyone who pretends to be SANE think that calling a group of COLLEGE girls HO's is funny or acceptable?
IF MLK were alive, he would BE JUST AS OUTRAGED by the fact that this FOOL called a group of INNOCENT COLLEGE KIDS HOS - I won't even focus on the injection of race - the word HO is bad enough. And people like you DON'T SEE ANYTHING WRONG with it!
But let it be YOUR DAUGHTER called HO, then I wonder if it then wouldn't be such a big deal!

Then perhaps the black population should be cautious of the words that they heavily interject into the english language. But of course "whitey" "Honkey MF" and "Cracker" are all perfectly acceptable.
But anyone who feels that they are within their rights, are racists, because the only reason they should be granted the right to bad mouth Caucasians any way they want to, is because they are inferior, so whoever thinks it is ok, is a racist. Because it isn't ok for anyone to badmouth any other race, but the fact is, that blacks badmouth more than anyone, hands down.

I applaud the decision made by MSNBC. I hope in the days to come that CBS will show the same courage in regard to Imus's radio show. Don's comments were wrong in so many ways. My hope is that Limbaugh, Beck, Boortz, Savage, and even you to.. Ms. Coulter will take notice and help networks like MSNBC clean this kind of crap up.

Are you saying it's ok to trash Imus over his words yet turn a blind eye to hip-hop/rapper lyrics? And please don't give me the shop-worn librul excuse: "....but but but...musicians are just entertainers, NOT journalists..." unless of course you have your apology to Michael Richards polished up and ready to send.

No, that is not what I am saying. Anyone who knows me personally knows that I have been very critical of these kind of lyrics. If I had a face to face discussion with Sharpton and Jackson, I would be pleading with them to do much more in this area. Furthermore ALL radio jocks and ALL talk show hosts that in the past have been accused of this kind of crap...both on the left and right should clean up their acts. Sorry, you will not find me offering up an apology for Mr. Richards...the lashing he got was well deserved as well.

Courage!!? MSNBC and CBS are exhibiting the WORST kind of corporate cowardice. The. Worst. If they truly object and have a problem with Imus, the correct stance would a three-part statement:
1. One simple apology for having aired the remarks
2. Naturally, we don't agree with his feelings
3. We'll make a decision about his future on our nework and get back to you.

Beck is a self-proclaimed hate-monger but give me a break. He is human, and speak as a human. Its not anything about race/color/sex/etc. Its only prejudice if you decide to take it that way, and you do. Does that make you any better than what you say he is?

I find it amusing that the same people who want Imus fired, are the ones who shouted loudest that not buying a Dixie Chicks CD, or not playing them on a radio station, was "denying them their living" and that they had "freedom of speech". And when the argument was made that yes, you do have freedom of speech, but sometimes there are consequences to that speech, they informed us that boycotting someone because you didn't like what they said was a violation of the first amendment and unfair.

IF I were to buy a RAP/ROCK album, I KNOW what to expect and would be a FOOL to be surprised when I get it. When I am listening to MSNBC (PUBLIC COMMUNICATION MEDIA CONTROLLED BY THE FCC)- I just don't EXPECT to HEAR DECENT, UPSTANDING, ACCOMPLISHED young women CALLED HOs!!!
Rappers are a subclass - why folks want to say they speak for all blacks is beyond me. Do the folks who are on Jerry Springer because they are *&(&*&& their sister or cousin REPRESENT WHITE AMERICA??? Does the ACID-STONED ROCKERS who also indulge in SEX with any and everything SPEAK FOR WHITE AMERICA???
It is really that simple!

Off topic...My sister and I still get a chuckle out of the word "ho" due to our first encounter with it.
Mid 80s...we were watching SNL together and Eddie Murphy was in this skit where he kept saying "ho." We were trying to figure out what he meant (not having heard the term used in that way before) when it hit us simultaneously...we laughed our asses off.

I'm no Imus fan, but it's hypocritical that NBC banned Imus for his slur while their Universal Records label makes millions from foul-mouthed rapers - I mean rappers - saying much worse.

Wow. I am one of those who opposed the Dixie Chicks Boycott yet I do not support the firing of Imus. I think Imus was wrong for saying what he did but I also think everyone else should stand back and allow him to try and resolve it with the people he insulted, The Rutgers Womens BB team. So are you one of those who supported the DC boycott but oppose those who demand Imus be fired due to his free speach rights? If so you may be the very hypocrite you accuse others of being?
Reply-

SusanParrish1 year, 4 months ago
No, this is worse. The Dixie Chick thing was about personal consumption, people decided they did not want to buy from them and DJ's decided they did not want to play them. Don Imus is being fired. It would be comparable if people were to call for listeners to tune out from his show, or if stations decided they did not want to carry his broadcast. But his being fired is akin to the Dixie Chicks getting dropped by their label. And I am not opposed to his being fired, per se, I think it's unfortunate the way this whole thing has gone down. He should not be going to Al and Jesse, he should have had a private conversation with the girls he insulted, and that should have been the end of the media attention. Then, if listenership went down due to the audiences outrage, a decision about whether or not to keep him should be made. That would be the same, and that would be fair.

Actually, it's about using the public airwaves - and one's privelaged public speaking position - to propagate hateful, racist and sexist invective ... just for the sake of doing so.
Who would expect Anne Coulter to get that? She's a hatemonger who's losing sponsors herself.
It will be interesting to see what happens to other hatemongers, like Rush Limpbaugh, Beck, and Boortz as the nation becomes more introspective about the corporate media's propagation of hate and diviciveness to support the Repugnant fascist dystopia.
Anyone notice how when the Imus fracas began to unfold the Repugnant Presidential contenders with the most graft flocked to Imus like flies as soon as they smelled the steaming pile?
Racism and sexism are considered virtues by the Repugnant base.

Based on your post, one would think hatred and lying were considered virtues by the Democratic base.
(And see, I didn't even call them Democraps, which would have been more fitting a reply to your comment.)
I am above the influence, woot!
