There was a movie decades ago about killer bees. Is that a pure myth, or have there been other instances?

The movie is an exaggeration but makes a great flick. I recall it created a lot of hysteria. Yes, people have been attacked but it is not common and therefore makes the news. Just think about all the news of attacks and fatalities caused by pit bulls (every other week is my guess) to put the frequency of bee attacks in perspective. Also, I have read a couple of incidents where a disabled person has fallen onto a "normal" beehive and then attacked as result. Almost took up beekeeping as a hobby but my neighbors got "antsy" at the idea so I did not pursue it.

I wonder if that swarm were the infamous African killer bees that sting you w/o provocation...the poor disabled man died. God rest his soul.

Africanized honey bee is known to occur in Texas where this incident occurred. Usually they try to identify the bees to determine Africanization. Yes, may he have peace.
