To quote a pundit right here on Propeller - commonly known as Neo-Con Central - this fellow, BoBo in Texas encapsulated his thoughts in a similar sityation.
"It's called the 1st Amendment."
Just as it is our Neo-Conservative 1st amendment right under the Constitution to try to SHUT UP ALL THEM LEFTIES WE HATE!!
Course, when we try to do it through threats of violence - which is the way we Christian Conservatives prefer - that don't seem to be covered by the 1st Amendment.
BUT WEARE WORKIN ON IT!!!

Well Darth, Rall is only wrong in that he doesn't recognize that a majority of our troops are AGAINST bushies silly war and that many of them fight against it.
Those who bray loudly while hiding behind "support the troops" are the biggest cowards and traitors in america.
Iraq Veterans Against the War
IVAW to Show Military Opposition to the Iraq War on October 27
If you are a soldier or veteran who has served on active duty or in the Reserves or National Guard
since 9/11, and you are frustrated and angry with the way our military has been used and abused to wage an occupation against the people of Iraq, then know that you are not alone. On October 27th, veterans, soldiers, and citizens will gather in 11 cities around this country in a national expression of the breadth and depth of antiwar sentiment in this nation....

Goopster, you need to quit mixing the painkillers with the Old Milwaukee after work. It clouds your otherwise questionable judgement.
That said, you seem to be the only one calling for censorship of Rall. I seek only to expose, mock and, if possible embarass him.
I think that you are mistakenly assigning threats of violence with the purpose of silencing critics to the Christian Conservatives. That's not their style. That's the specialty of your Muslim friends from The Religion of Peace.

bobo, don't you dare suggest that i (a liberal) or any other liberal, except for the idiot who wrote the trash in this article, feels this way about the our military. you seem to want to create enemies where you have none. in doing so, you are merely a pawn of this admin. which seems to already have you by the balls.

Ted Rall is a carton of sludge that has long passed its expiration date. He's a shifty cheap shot artist who likes to bring up the past like it's meaningful. He likes to point out in his infinite wisdom that he was always against the war.
Well, Teddy, the steak has been seasoned and placed in the oven, yet you still want to argue about the cut.
It's fun to use an emotional argument about some soldiers lives, but Ted seems to be sorely lacking in ideas about what we are to do about the inevitable fallout if just withdraw as fast as possible, which will result in even greater grief for soldiers and the country.
Ted "Let It Flow" Rall, statesman.
I'm throughly impressed and throughly regular after cosuming his tripe.

I have to admit, I really dislike Ted Rall. I actually was compelled to send him a note outlining my disgust of his Condi Rice cartoon a couple years back. He also had one about Pat Tillman, but I think he may have apologized about that one.
He's a jerk. The fact that he's using the "72%" Zogby poll is telling...that poll was discredited. Hey, I think Hyperbola here at Propeller still likes that poll, too...

I've no idea who this guy is.
He totally lacks credibility.
He writes crap.
But bigotry and treason are hardly epithets worth throwing around like confetti.
Save them for someone of substance.
In short a pointless non-story.
Not worth voting for or against or wasting more than 3 minutes on.

He doesn't understand the reason the soldiers are there - they only follow orders from civilians. The soldier is not in charge - we and people like this jerk tell them to do what they do. Sure, they volunteered, but apologizing for the actions they take to stay alive is completely out of line...

The Gestapo Inheritance
'We do not torture': Groans from the CIA's black sites beg to differ
... What has recentlyâ;;and startlinglyâ;;been revealed are the eerie parallels between these CIA "enhanced interrogation techniques" and the verschärfte vernehmung (German for "enhanced interrogation") methods of persuasion used by the Gestapo....
... the parallels between our current "enhanced interrogation techniques" and the Gestapo's have been researched and documented by the widely published libertarian Andrew Sullivan (andrewsul... as well as by international human-rights lawyer Scott Horton...
.. He notes that the German lexicon of torture began in 1937, to be used "only on Communists, Marxists, members of the Bible-researcher sect, saboteurs, terrorists, members of the resistance . . . asocial persons, Polish or Soviet persons who refuse to work, or idlers." ...

...Previous Nazi records actually show that "the use of hypothermia and waterboarding (both later authorized by Bush and Rumsfeld) were initially forbidden" by the Nazisâ;;but, Sullivan adds, "historians have found that all the bureaucratic restrictions were eventually broken or abridged. Once you start torturing, it has a life of its own."
..In 1948, Sullivan reports, there was a U.S.-run war-crimes trial in Norway prosecuting Nazis convicted of "enhanced interrogation techniques" in the Second World War. ... At the Norwegian war-crimes trial, "The Nazi defense of the [enhanced] techniques is almost verbatim that of the Bush administration: 'The victims were not in uniform . . . and the acts of torture in no case resulted in death.'" (the Bush position in the 2002 Justice Department "torture memos")...

The lieutenant quoted in the NY Times article made a very valid point about how America is not at war, the military is at war. Mr. Rall correctly contrasted the Vietnam veteran's protests with the lack of opposition to this war by those in the military today and simply pointed out that currently serving servicemen and women are volunteers and if they oppose the war should leave the military.
No hate, just fact.

amesburyroad comprehended the article well enough. He just didn't read it through the lens of a nationalist who:
1. has a sense of entitlement for America
2. is narcissistic about America
3. has a pathological need to control the rest of the world
4. never accepts that America's prior actions have consequences, like 9/11.
For more information on this nationalism, see:

I dunno, BoBo. The guy makes sense to me. I admit that when I see a soldier walking down the streets of Louisville, I have mixed feelings about him. Certainly, I pray for him. But...when a soldier fights in an unjust war, every person he kills is an act of murder - even if the guy he just killed was pointing an RPG at him.
I wish Ron Paul could actually win; he's the only republican that wants us out of Iraq immediately.

Here is something that fits you bobo.
Are Educated Jingoes Honest?
The title comes from a chapter-heading of J.A. Hobson's pamphlet The Psychology of Jingoism (1901). Some of its other chapter-headings are Credulity, Brutality, The Eclipse of Humour, and The Abuse of the Press...
...An indictment of the Boer War and of the press campaign that made it possible, The Psychology of Jingoism offers an impressive foreshadowing of the Iraq war and the War on Terror...
... The editors of Jingo journals have felt quite safe in continuing to repeat the most audacious falsehoods long after they have been exposed, simply because they knew that their readers would not look at papers which opposed the war. Now, this attitude of mind has been the rule, and not the exception, among the classes which boast their education and intelligence, and it is an attitude of dishonesty."..

rall has a point, but goes about it in the wrong manner. he is telling his story from a little too far left of center.
i, personally, am surprised that that there are not more anti-war demonstrations, given the amount of disdain exhibited here, and in other media venues.
the far right "don't give a damn how the world sees us, we must kill everyone that doesn't like us"
and the far left "want to impeach the complete gov't and try them for war crimes, them hangem' and extend an arm in friendship to the world".
the sooner a "central" party is born and takes over, the better.
good luck with that.

With code pink and the Thruthers going into meetings on both sides and causing trouble, even Bill Clinton isn't immune to their hate filled rants, they are becoming more bold and a bit dangerous. I wonder when these groups will become violent in their zeal for their cause. Can you imagine how people would feel about said groups if they set off a bomb during a Hillary speech because she doesn't tow their line?

Well bobo, most of the non-zionist neocons have seen the failure and no longer back the bushie zioncons.
America's self-defeating hegemony â;;Francis Fukuyama
... Israel made a similar mistake in thinking that it could use its enormous margin of conventional military power to destroy Hezbollah in last summer's Lebanon War. Both Israel and the US are nostalgic for a twentieth-century world of nation-states, which is understandable, since that is the world to which the kind of conventional power they possess is best suited.
But nostalgia has led both states to misinterpret the challenges they now face, whether by linking al-Qaeda to Saddam Hussein's Iraq, or Hezbollah to Iran and Syria. This linkage does exist in the case of Hezbollah, but the networked actors have their own social roots and are not simply pawns used by regional powers....

Oh gee, I knew that some idiot would start blaming the troops. Iraq is getting to look more and more like Vietnam every day.
It is the job of the military to follow orders. Countries where the military don't follow orders look like Burma!!! Is that would that idiot Ted want??? Burma in the US? The Generals shooting us because we are doing something they don't like?
Keep in mind that it is NOT THE MILITARY'S FAULT. It is the fault of all Americans (excepting the ones that were against it from the beginning -- which excludes Hillary and most Democrats also).
Reply-

hyperbola11 months, 2 weeks ago
Actually the reason we don't have Burma in the US is because our soldiers have historically been reluctant to shoot their own countrymen (there are a few exceptions). Whether this is still true of our "professional" military or of the private armies of our warlords (Blackwater, Erik Prinz) remains to be seen (Blackwater threatened to shoot Americans trying to reclaim their houses in New Orleans).
You are right that Americans need to recover their democracy and end the Iraq war and the ugly accompaniments. Here is something all americans should support.

Rumsfeld Hit with Lawsuit for Ordering, Authorizing Torture
U.S. and European human rights groups filed a lawsuit in France today charging former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld with ordering and authorizing torture. The plaintiffs include the New York-based Center for Constitutional Rights and the Paris-based International Federation of Human Rights. They say Rumsfeld authorized interrogation techniques that led to abuses at US-run prisons in Iraq and Guantanamo Bay.
The complaint was filed with the Paris prosecutor's office as Rumsfeld arrived in France for a visit. This is the fifth time Rumsfeld has been charged with direct involvement in torture since 9/11. Michael Ratner is the president of the Center for Constitutional Rights. He joins me in the firehouse studio. Jeanne Sulzer is a French attorney with the International Federation of Human Rights. She joins me on the line from Paris....

Actually Rall is right. Our soldiers feel the same way - and are taking action, just as they did in vietnam.
Speaks well of our troops that many of them uphold our finest american traditions, e.g. the Nuremberg principles, better than our politicians do.

Seven CIA Veterans Challenge 9/11 Commission Report
September 23, 2007 â;; Seven CIA veterans have severely criticized the official account of 9/11 and have called for a new investigation. "I think at simplest terms, there's a cover-up. The 9/11 Report is a joke," said Raymond McGovern, 27-year veteran of the CIA, who chaired National Intelligence Estimates during the seventies. "There are a whole bunch of unanswered questions. And the reason they're unanswered is because this administration will not answer the questions," he said....
William Christison, a 29-year CIA veteran, former National Intelligence Officer (NIO) and former Director of the CIA's Office of Regional and Political Analysis also describes the 9/11 Commission Report as a "joke" and offers even more outspoken criticism....

Robert Baer is another well known CIA veteran who has questioned the official account of 9/11. A 21-year CIA veteran and specialist in the Middle East, Baer was awarded the Career Intelligence Medal upon his retirement in 1997... "So you are personally of the opinion ... that there was an aspect of 'inside job' to 9/11 within the U.S. government?" To which Baer replied, "There is that possibility, the evidence points at it." ...
"I am forced to conclude that 9/11 was at a minimum allowed to happen as a pretext for war," wrote well-known intelligence analyst Robert David Steele in 2006.. Steele has 25 years of combined service in the CIA and the U.S. Marine Corps. He also served as the second ranking civilian (GS-14) in U.S. Marine Corps Intelligence from 1988 - 1992 and was a member of the Adjunct Faculty of Marine Corps University....
