That is too bad BB. Drugs are very destructive. The dad broke his daughters heart and the daughter broke her father's, and no one meant to hurt anyone.

Lord knows how I've hurt myself, and others in the streets during my bad experiences with my wretched drug abuses. What was hurtful was how it hurt my mother...God rest her soul. 2 years she's been gone. I hope to celebrate being clean 12 years on the Ides of March next year God willing.

Your mother experienced your sober years. There were 10, and I am sure she understood how difficult it is to stay clean day by day. She loved you and is proud of you when she looks down on you. Keep the faith. You are much stronger for the fight you have won, and you should be proud of yourself too.

Your welcome Bronx. My hat is off to you! I know it couldn't have been easy, but you did it! Great testimony!

So true. I have seen family's torn apart by substance abuse many times. The abuser never realizes the problems they are causing to those around them. One item that gets to me is the "enabler" .... the so called friends of the abuser that provide the drink or drug to the one that has the problem. I cringe when I hear "have one for the road".

Annie... great post... very hard for me, as a father(that has fallen far short of the ideals I had set for myself) to read, but none the less it is very touching and reminds me of why I am the Father of my wonderful Children.

I was saddened by the last line. : )
I'm glad no one thought of me as a waste, that maybe I was just lucky or luckier. I don't feel like crying right now, I'm in too good of a mood ( as tears fall lol )
I am who I am because of what I've been through, done, accomplished, given, learned and shared.

True cherev, there are always two sides of the coin. We've only heard one half of it.

Cherev, you're welcome. Great point! After a certain age even children are responsible for the choices and decisions they make. And in reality blame serves little purpose and is more counter productive than anything else. Guilt is not something to be wallowed in as excuse for not progressing.
