I'm actually kind of surprised this hasn't happened before now. There isn't a whole lot to do at the South Pole once you finish your work for the day.

Get drunk, get in a fight over a chick, and then get a private plane ride to a hospital in New Zealand with somebody else picking up the $85,000 tab. Where's the down side? Sounds like a helluva fun Saturday night to me! Where can I apply for the job?

So, it took mankind less than 100 years from Amundsen's historic trek till we brought all the benefits of civilized life to the last wild place on earth. I'm right proud of humanity.
Now, on a sadder note... Here in Boston, it costs between $800 and $1200 for a helicopter medivac flight of a few miles. Wonder what the US Government will bill these two geniuses for a C-130 Hercules and crew from McMurdo Station to Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station and back? Broken jaws are easy to take, but that bill's gotta hurt!

I don't imagine there are very many women AT the south pole. Competition for that particular "resource" would be pretty intense. I'd guess it's entirely possible that this HAS happened before, but was kept quiet as no emergency airlifts were required. Just a guess.
