The first set of files, the Harriman papers in the Library of Congress, show that Prescott Bush was a director and shareholder of a number of companies involved with Thyssen. Thyssen owned the largest steel and coal company in Germany and grew rich from Hitler's efforts to re-arm between the two world wars....
...More tantalising are Bush's links to the Consolidated Silesian Steel Company (CSSC), based in mineral rich Silesia on the German-Polish border. During the war, the company made use of Nazi slave labour from the concentration camps, including Auschwitz.
.. The second set of papers, which are in the National Archives, are contained in vesting order number 248 which records the seizure of the company assets. What these files show is that on October 20 1942 the alien property custodian seized the assets of the UBC, of which Prescott Bush was a director.
Having gone through the books of the bank, further seizures were made against two affiliates, the Holland-American Trading Corporation and the Seamless Steel Equipment Corporation. By November, the Silesian-American Company, another of Prescott Bush's ventures, had also been seized.
.. The third set of documents, also at the National Archives, are contained in the files on IG Farben, who was prosecuted for war crimes.
..By the time Fritz Thyssen inherited the business empire in 1926, Germany's economic recovery was faltering. After hearing Adolf Hitler speak, Thyssen became mesmerised by the young firebrand. He joined the Nazi party in December 1931 and admits backing Hitler in his autobiography, I Paid Hitler, when the National Socialists were still a radical fringe party.
The interesting thing Oscar is that when all these documents were declassified, they were very widely discussed in foreign news media, but absolutely "censored" and never mentioned in our corporate media. That is why you don't know of the extensive federal documentation linking Prescott Bush to the Nazis, even after the US entered WWII.
There were many Americans who did business with German companies, including those companies which were involved in war crimes and crimes against humanity. there were some who even provided critical support to Adolf Hitler and the National Socialist-Deutsche Arbeiter Party. The most prominent of these were Henry Ford and Cap Anderson, President and Chairman of Texaco.
Few American businessmen who were involved in such business dealings were ever linked to any of the war crimes or crimes against humanity. If everyone who did business with these German companies had been prosecuted, it would have been necessary to lock up thousands of unsuspecting Americans, including the board of trustees and officers of the University of Tennessee, which bought (and still buys) many elevators and other equipment from Thyssen. I think such a proposition is absurd.
The interesting thing about the current politically-motivated screeds against Prescott Bush, the Bush family, and the current president, is the omission (surely deliberate) of all corresponding information about others who had similar dealings. The presumed "sins" of Prescott Bush pale in comparison to the dealings of such Democratic Party stalwarts as Averill Harriman and (dare I say it?) Joseph Kennedy. In fact, Kennedy, who was US Ambassador to Great Britain, even tried to persuade Roosevelt to conclude an alliance with Hitler's Germany AGAINST Britain and its allies--AFTER THE SECOND WORLD WAR HAD ALREADY BEGUN.
Those who have been on this site for a while, including you, hyperbola, must surely know that I harbor no enthusiasm for the Bush family. But I DO harbor the (apparently) outdated idea that discourse, political and otherwise, benefits from an adherence to the truth. RadioFreeEuropa and his circle of friends abandoned that idea long ago.
my mama used to say, 'if everyone else was jumping off a cliff would you? [Ford and others did it, etc.] and 'just because something's legal don't make it right'
you are certainly right, as I posted on the other RFE story, which shoulda went here;
there is no need to go into the 'criminal' history of the Bush's--we have all been here and have all seen the last 7 years
When John F Kennedy was president, Harriman sent the telegram through Ball to take our Diem Nu, when the President and many of high ranking cabinet were out of town.
Jonh Kennedy was livid with rage according to eyewitness accounts. He threatened to remove Harriman and expose the CIA's actions of destroying Democracy throughout the globe.
Averill Harriman's support was crucial to John Kennedy when he sought the Democratic Party nomination for president in 1960. Harriman and his wife were frequent guests of the Kennedy's, both at the White House and at Hyannisport.
You need to quit making stuff up, crespi. It makes it all too evident that you are a totally dishonest creep.
While you're at it, why don't you take that imaginary "coincidence" and hold a circle jerk over it? I'm sure that all your friends would come.
I agree that others were involved. Indeed, as another article I linked below points out, the "war profiteer" group includes many of the super-rich families and giant corporations in America. and it is not new, it started already prior to and during WWI and has involved both parties. Eisenhower was already half a century too late when he warned us about the military-industrial complex and since then it has gotten much worse. What is perhaps clearest about the Bush family is that virtually their whole "career" over 4 generations has depended on being war profiteers.
Where in this piece does it suggest that Bush was the only one? All the robber barons of the day were doing it. As I have said the idea of a free labor force held behind concentration camp barbed wire and no political opposition, well, many of these "fine citizens" found quite attractive. Not just Bush. We all lived through the later Bush escapades, Neil's bank robbery, etc. Iran Contra, we know how propping up Saddam worked out. If these deeds are lawful or not, well that is perhaps a legitimate question. However they strike most as dubious acts, things that at least surely should be unlawful.
Joe Kennedy though not profiting from Hitler did believe fascism was inevitable. And Ford's dealings and views are generally known. Of course I would be happy to engage in any conversation, if you could refrain from pointless insults.

The Kennedys were hated by Harriman.
A week later he was dead.
Coincidence?
Averill Harriman's support was crucial to John Kennedy when he sought the Democratic Party nomination for president in 1960. Harriman and his wife were frequent guests of the Kennedy's, both at the White House and at Hyannisport.

Oscar-
For a guy defending Nazis you're pretty quick with the name calling.

Thanks, Radio.
I've been getting most of my info from recent BESTSELLERS (not crackpots), to try to avoid Oscar's "concerns."
