'Manufactured' heros seem to be a staple in this country. While I think that Tillman was a bona fide hero for giving up the glory of the NFL to go to combat, putting his money where his mouth is so to speak, to fabricate a story to glorify his death was just so wrong. He was so prescient in thinking that his death might be exploited.
My understanding was that Pat Tillman had been sent to Iraq after being in Afghanistan but told them that he didn't sign up to fight there. He said that he wasn't going to stay there and fight innocent people. He requested to be sent back to Afghanistan. Since he was still being used as a poster boy the administration saw this as a rebellion.He was used in life and his death. I am sure that his death was not a coincidence and that he was shot by not so friendly fire.This administration is evil and at the very least they were complicit in the attacks of 9/11. IT WAS AN INSIDE JOB!!!!!

Remember the Vietnam War? Do you recall a term used by some soldiers there called fragging?
For whatever reason Tillman died, some in the Army took it upon themselves to falsify how he died. Did the top brass, including the Sec Def (Rumsfeld) and other civilians in the Pentagon, take it upon themselves to falsify written interview statements and autopsies? Probably, but then we may never know who was responsible.
They know which solider pulled the trigger. He claims it was a case of mistaken identity. There is no great cover up. His brother was there. Did they try and make it look like he died in battle and suppress it was friendly fire, yes. Did they get some soldiers to finally admit what really happened yes. What more can be done I don't know.

The least it can be said about this incident is that it was used as a propaganda tool. And who benefits from propaganda in this case?
