Editorial: For Veterans, There is no plan »

Even though the overall number of veterans has declined as vets from past wars die of old age, the government will be spending more - about $59 billion each year - on veterans in 25 years. Did anyone in Congress who supported the Iraq war factor this in while manufacturing consent for our invasion of Iraq?

I see it as part of the 'wallmart-izing' of the military.
Hire outside contractors when possible; and keep the regular soldier as a kind of temporary-worker on permanent assignment.
That translates to as few benefits as possible, for as long a service as possible; with less emphasis on training, and fewer rewards or compensations.
Just my theory.
