The growing practice of "behavioral targeting," or sending ads to online users based on their Internet habits, is now under scrutiny by the Federal Trade Commission, whose review could shape not only Web advertising rules but the character of the Web itself.

The cornerstones of privacy regulation is notice and choice. Anyone who gathers information about you should tell you what they are collecting, and what they plan to do with it, and enable you to demand that they not do so. Internet users should inform themselves about Internet privacy practices. Learn what Internet marketers are doing, and when it crosses your personal threshold, ask them to stop. Search engines record every search query you ever enter - unless you set your account to stop it. Some ISPs track every Web site you visit - unless you ask them not to. Learn much more about Internet privacy at FindingDulcinea's Web Guide to Internet Marketing and Privacy. It is guide to the best online resources for arming yourself with the information you need to make your own personal choices.

They probably know more about me than I know about me...;)

This is suppose to be a free country, free from an overbearing government! I hope that someone puts a stop to government nosing into individuals private lives!

        Thanks Beau.

Doesn't sound like the government is nosing into people's lives. It is the online tracking companies who are following where you go on the web then sending you a tailored ad.

I noticed this just yesterday while visiting a popular website for people who can create groups of different interest and meet.

As I clicked on a member's profile, I noticed on the left side of the website showed gay advertisments, etc...then when I clicked on mines, it showed advertisements with Christianity interest.

I hope this situation will turn around for the good according to GOD's will.

I suspect that various organizations know a lot more about us than we want known. Have always resented the concept of "selling"; would very much prefer for sales types to sit in one place until I choose to come to them.

I am concerned about the ability to make effective propaganda. When we have news, it runs a day or two then we got it and on to he next event. When a topic stays in the media for days, more is going on than news. Our opinions start to change, and that is a psyche ops thing. There is an agenda you can bet, and we may not know who's agenda it is. How to keep us engaged instead of being suspicious to question who, what and why we should consider the matter is an art.

I used to have a quote here from Andre Breton, author of several surrealist works.
