This should spike the murder rate in Japan which stood at about 4.99 per 1,000,000 people (the rate in the US is about 4.28 per 100,000 people or roughly 10 times higher than in Japan). Better register those knives before they catch up with the US. By the way they use chopsticks there not knives, forks or spoons.

Wow, its really hard to imagine this happening in Tokyo and right in Akihabara at that. It must have been shocking and surreal. I wonder if any tourists or non-Japanese who come there in large numbers for gadgets, games and anime, were among the victims(?).

I'm sorry for both the victims and the perpetrator, as I always am in these berserker situations. I think it does illustrate that this kind of sad thing is NOT just the result of availability of certain weapons, OR the mind-set particular cultures or nations.
