What Does It Matter To You? »
Posted by: CHAM 1 month, 2 weeks agoWhy don't we, especially Christians, feel responsible for innocents killed in Iraq, for death, pain and suffering , from the invasion of a country, brought by people in our Government, for The War Industry and Oil Companies, seeking profits? What would Jesus think?

The United States and its people can no longer claim the high moral road because of destruction of a country that was never a threat to us. We have killed 1.2 million Iraqis by last count, simply to get their Oil and feed the insatiable appetite for profit of the War Industry, The Oil Companies, and to open wide the cultivation of souls for the Religious Right.

People are desensitized to the violence, so long as it occurs to someone else, somewhere else. It was said that there will come a time when the people's heart will wax cold. Maybe that time is now.

Spade, I think that's a great question. I'm no expert in religion, but from what I've read, it appears that the fiery sermons against the tyranny of the state have been changed....not they're fiery sermons in support of the state - and its many, many wars.
Sad times we live in.

From the psychological POV--well, we must defend ourselves against those things that cause emotional conflict and/or pain, assuming we acknowledge them, on whatever level, at all.
There are other issues as well, among them an individ's ability to empathize--there's a wide range on this.
Churchy immersions can remind us of our responsibilities to one another--can goad us, at least, to think about the "we," even the "them," but we're easily distracted by a culture--ours--that's profoundly materialistic; that enshrines individual (as opposed to group) effort; that distracts us endlessly with messages that equate fulfillment with owning things. (Or did I say that?)

I believe that our churches and their preachers could shine light on the ungodly things we are allowing a segment of our Government to do to others.
If they really believe in what they profess, and if they really believe that they should try their best to be Christ like, then how could they not see that they are coming up extremely short on delivering christs works.
It just doesn't seem to concern Americans that over a million Iraqis have been killed, no telling how many injured permanently, 4 million turned into refugees and yet the people here in America approach it with a ho-hum attitude.
The most tragic of all is that they didn't do anything to us to warrant this type of evil fostered on them.

A question that I don't know the answer. I'm not sure that it matters. All the dead are dead. I'm speaking of innocent dead.
Saddam was hung for the conviction of killing 154 people.
I don't know how many people OBL killed for the United States before he turn against us. We don't hold those against him.
I'm not sure that Saddam didn't kill more for the United States than for any other cause.
George Bush didn't order the killing of anyone except for the United States. I suppose that one could say the ones who were tortured to death was because of his command. But Bush has brought the death of more than 4100 American soldiers and over 1.2 million Iraqis for the reason of promoting profits for the War Industry and Big Oil.
He didn't do Iraq to repel an enemy, nor did he do it to protect America, again I am saying he committed war crimes and every soldier who died in Iraq died to profit the War Industry and Big oil, nothing else.
