  Unfortunately the UN does not have a very good track record in resolving conflicts. Usually, what happens is that they mess up what is already messed up. But don't wish for something that you are unwilling to die for. Because this is the Legacy of the UN. They act, people die, nothing is resolved.

    The UN has long been sequestered by western powers and is subject to the same hypocrisies as those western powers. Only if there are western economic interests inbvolved is the UN likely to be called on.

    Do some reading on Equatorial Guinea and Zimbabwe. EG is FAR worse than Zimbabwe, but nothing is said because western oil companies are busy extracting oil there.

    Or, consider the fact that the biggest failure of the UN is also the oldest - the failure to address the ethnic cleansing of over seven million christians and palestinians by racist zionists from eastern europe in Palestine.

          If the state of Isreal does not have "the right to exist", then there are lot of places that dont have a right by the same criteria.

          Of course there are Jews that dont agree with the state as it exists or criticize defenders of Isreal or condemn the influence of zionists aroung the world...all of which seem to put a hole in the premise the zionist is so effective to conspire and twist world events in thier favor.

          It is my contention that the Jewish/zionists obsessionist is just as insideous and twisting of truth and justice.

          But I will imagine it your way--take away Isreal and all the "zionist" voices(or all those you label "zionist")---will peace and justice riegn? Are you so simplistic to believe the death of a scapegoat will satiate the seething hatreds that were created and nurtured for so many generations?

            The truth is, the scapegoat cannot be allowed "to die" in the minds of those who want to rid the world of zionism. Peoples will reach for other grievences(real or imagined) that mount over the eras and continue to justify the foulest of deeds. Many will use God to clear thier conscience. Many will deny god so they can act without conscience. Such is the human condition.

            I wont even go the shame of the UN. It has rarely really acted beyond the interests of its member states. When a country acts in its own interest that happens to do good, it is usually condemned if conficts with the interests of the collective. Sometimes the interests of the collective are not to do the right thing. Recently, it has been more valued by the UN institution to protect its collective interest, for the sake of collective interest, regardless of the suffering of peoples through out the world due to evil.

              The real fact of the matter is that honest, moral jews knew from the beginning that a zionist israel could only be achieved with massive ethnic cleansing. That is why they abandoned zionism a century ago. It is a real tragedy for judaism that so many ignorant american jews could be suckered into supporting this vile ideology that shares its east european origins with many aspects of nazi ideology (a "master race", "subhumans", "living space for the master race", "ethnic cleansing / genocide for the subhumans").

          You sound like a real Muslim. Jews should only exist under the Ahl al Kitab status where they would have no military duties but had to pay a heavy tribute, the Jizya. Also there are severe restrictions placed on them like never repairing or replacing a religious building. Paying the Jizra under demeaning circumstances. wear silly clothes and have strange haircuts.

          And they should be happy that way.

          If Israel has no right to exist then we need to go back to before anybody invaded anybody and put those people back where they came from. All people of non American descent should go back to where they came from. All Muslims should go back to Medina and leave Mecca alone since Muhammad captured it while a peace treaty was in place. He showed up with a 10,000 man army and they had the choice of convert or he would invade. Same choice he gave all other Arab cities. That is after he told all Jews and Christians to leave or die.

  The UN has become a pathetic, corrupt, hand-wringing bystander that has been overrun by various despots and non-democracies.

  One particularly disgusting example is the UN Human Rights Council. Requirements for membership include "members elected to the Council shall uphold the highest standards in the promotion and protection of human rights." Current members include Cuba, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.

  Doesn't help if the last remaining superpower choses not to lead in the UN! Bolton, never even bothered to attend any of the 30 meetings Kofi held to improve the UN, didn't even send a representative! Then Dumya trashing Kofi for Kofi's son's mistakes just because Kofi, rightly, called Dumya a "war criminal".

      Actually the US has forfeited any claim to lead the UN with our war crimes in recent years. Only if Americans try and jail war criminals like Bush, Cheney, Wolfowitz, Abrams, Feith, Rumsfeld, ... could we restore any moral claim in the UN.

  The UN is a peace keeping unit under the jurisdiction of the world as one. Their objective is humanitarian aid, in most cases, they have no weapons. We all know, peace is not an easy objective to obtain. It's probably why most are first to react in violence and war rather than negotiate. Unfortunatley people are more likely to negotiate while held in a head lock, than in a round table discussion. How many people do you know or have known that act all big and tough until someone has them on the ground. Same as knocking a chip off the old block...
