A senior government official with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has expressed great interest in a so-called safety bracelet that would serve as a stun device, similar to that of a police Taser. The bracelet would be worn by ALL airline passengers.

I sure know i would never fly in the US again if this gets implemented... Keep getting this mental image of the explosive collars in "The Running Man" with Arnold Schwarzenegger.

      Aidenag,

Re: "I sure know i would never fly in the US again if this gets implemented

Surely this is a joke, right?

Were these people from DHS smoking crack, when they thought of this proposal?

That idea would never get off the ground and if it did by some strange notion, the courts would be full of endless lawsuits.

What about all those people that wear pacemakers?

      Imagine that?!

Or at least only fly private chartered jets from smaller airports or from less restrictive areas of airports where they probably won't use instruments of torture on passengers.

I think tyranny is starting to rear its ugly head a bit too often lately. Increased government no-knock home invasions, DC's police state where people may not enter areas of the city without a good story and must show their papers, Soviet-style invasion of sovereign nations, unfounded searches and seizures, ad nauseum.

A significant number of bozos from both major parties in all 3 branches of government are nothing but self-serving dirty politicians, and We the People are just sitting back and letting it happen and then feebly sniveling after each dirty deed is done.

I am shocked that this is even being considered! I don't like flying now, with all delays and hassels! This might be enough to break the Airline industry!

        Thanks Mark!

If we don't get fuel prices under control, or come up with alternatives, the only people flying will be the rich in private jets.

Oh right. I'd trust some flight attendant bouncing around with a tazer devise not to accidently point it at me, or some crap piece of equipment not to malfunction, or some nobody to decide if my 'conduct' is to their liking. Yeah, that'll happen.

Sir, if you ask for one more bag of peanuts, I will have to tazer you.

Please put your seat in the upright position or the flight attendant will tazer you.

Our in-flight movie will be 'Something About Mary'; if you prefer being stunned unconscious ask your hostess to tazer you.

First the airline industry then they'll require it on trains and buses. Next thing you know we will all have to wear them "for our own safety". How far we have fallen.

Hey, my mom used to tazer us all the time.

But in a loving kind of way.

                She meant well.

Some day they will let her out and we are going to have a big tazing party.

First, I will REFUSE to wear one of these devices under ANY circumstances.

Second, if these are adopted for regular use by the airlines, or by any other businesses which serve the general public, I will work, using every resource at my disposal, to remove from office the individuals who have approved them, and to remove all elected officials who condone them.

WOW and that might mean they get to use the freestanding tazers and declare you an enemy combatant and ship you off to gitmo on a prison flight with a tazer collar. Im being facetious but the scary thing is that can be exactly what would happen.

I cannot take credit for this observation. I heard a caller commenting on the radio the other day. The company selling this has sold it to the wrong market. They should try parochial schools first.

Up until the very last statement I agreed with you. Why would you want these sold to parochial schools? WHY are they being sold period?

This is so ridiculous it sounds like something out of a SNL sketch where a passenger asking for seconds on his meal would be tazed for unnecessarily adding to the airline's cost of his flight. Should this come to pass, my travelling would be limited to wherever I could drive within budget.

Wonder what kind of fee they would tack on to wear their shock 'bracelet' and like some terrorist couldn't figure out how to disarm the thing, then the rest of us would be even more at their mercy.

Some of our most supposed 'safety' intelligence comes up with the most idiotic ideas, as if the majority would submit to wearing something like that, if they do...we are all in more trouble then we think.

Very true. Money given out by homeland Security has been used to bu some very outlandish products in the name of "security". One of the best was a small town buying an M1-Abrams tank for crowd control.

I have a better idea. Why not just put every passenger to sleep with some kind of an injection or just pills right before the flight and then as soon as every body fell sleep air plane would take off. Of course there has to be some kind of a verification process to make sure no body is faking sleep and this can be take n care of by a flight attendant walking around and slapping the passenger or hitting them in the knee with a small hammer for a knee jerk reaction or what have you....Some side benefits of this would be nobody would be served food or beverages, less flight attendants would be needed,(a cut on overhead and also plane's weight)just look at the money saved form not serving food, beverages, less attendants and less dishes or no dishes and the reduced weight of the plane.if some emergency occurs and people who were sleep die ..well ..that is the reality of slavery I mean modern life...

I say suck this oops I meant to say yeyyyy yyyyyyyyy yyyyyyyyyy yyyyyyy yyyyyyy yy

If my above idea is not acceptable we can go to PLAN B, which would reduce the plane weight's tremendously and save money for the airlines who would maybe pass the savings to passengers (more likely not). My plan is every body would have to be at the airport at least three hours ahead of time and at the check in they would be given a special pill that would make them empty and clean their stomach in the next 30-60 minutes.

These pills have to be administered in the presence of a specially trained employee of airline , lets call it, The S hit Czar , whose job would be to make sure that everybody took this pill and the right way. In the next 30 to 60 minutes restrooms would be ready to accept customers once again in the presence of another s hit czar. If everybody dropped 2-5 pounds , the amount of money saved on fuel not carrying all that would be mind boggling. No amount of gas price hike can ever offset that saving. I am all for this TAKE A S HIT initiative how about u folks !!
