The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office paired with the Newport-based Army recruiter on July 12, in an effort to convey information to jail inmates about the possibility of serving in the armed forces. The recruiter was able to contact more than 30 inmates, out of which 3 were found to be eligible for military service.

        There was a recent story that 50% of new recruits to the Army have criminal records.
