James Madison, explaining the constitution, in Federalist Paper 45, said, "The powers delegated...to the federal government are few and defined. Those which are to remain in the State governments are numerous and indefinite."

    I think more states need to look at their constitutional rights a little closer. The Federal governments is getting involved tn too many things that should be controlled by the individual states.

      Congress needs to reread the Constitution and the Federalist Papers. They need to pay particular attention to the 10th Amendment.

        The 14th amendment is as much a part of the Constitution as the 10th is. Thomas Jefferson didn't intend for blacks or women to vote, nor did the Founders intend for Senators to be elected by popular vote, but what the Founders did intend was to give us a living and breathing document capable of change, which it has.

          Although the United States Constitution was by far the best ever written for the protection of liberty, with safeguards against the dangers of a democracy, it was flawed from the beginning. Instead of guaranteeing liberty equally for all people, the authors themselves yielded to the majority's demands that they compromise on the issue of slavery. The urge to accommodate majority opinion, while ignoring the principles of individual liberty, was a major flaw. Many of the Framers of the Bill of Rights believed that slavery violated the fundamental natural rights of African-Americans, a "theory that declared slavery to be a violation of the due process clause of the Fifth Amendment....
