The nation is facing some tough questions -- how to go about withdrawing troops from Iraq, how to handle an Iran with nuclear ambitions. It is also facing some easy ones -- like whether to get tough about protecting children from deadly toys. Sadly, Washington seems to have as much trouble with the easy questions as the hard ones.

    For Pete's sake.

    From the article:

    "Like other government agencies that protect consumers, the Consumer Product Safety Commission has been intentionally starved for resources. As a result, the CPSC has not been able to do enough of the sort of testing and enforcement work that is needed to keep consumers safe.

    "Last year, the acting chairwoman of the commission even opposed a Senate bill designed to strengthen her agency. This was after accepting free trips from the toy industry."

      This administration has gutted regulatory agencies. They have actually convinced some dolts that this is a good thing for the 'free market.' We are now seeing the results of deregulating the media, banking, CPSC, FCC, FDA & so on. And oddly enough, Americans are very quiet about it. Quite bizarre really.
